The best way to create color combinations that go great together is to have some variation. Generally speaking, stark white cupboards with stark white countertops are usually too dull-looking.

You’ll want at least some variation between your cabinets and counters so they don’t look like they came out of a box store or were picked by someone who has never seen an actual kitchen before. If you’re going for a more traditional style, try pairing wood cabinets with granite counters or stainless steel ones instead of using all one material throughout your kitchen. You can also use different kinds of wood on the same project; just be sure each piece works well with others in terms of texture, grain direction, and stain color (if any).
